NLO Conference paper number W3A.5: Spiral Resonator Referenced on-Chip low Noise Microwave Generation
Our paper on advancing chip-scale low phase noise photonic microwave oscillators is now published in Photonics Research. A new record-low phase noise has been achieved for chip-scale oscillators (-69 dBc/Hz at 10 Hz offset, and -144 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset for a 10 GHz carrier scaled from 37.3 GHz output).

Paper abstract: Small-sized, ultra-low phase noise photonic microwave oscillators at 10, 20, 30, and 40 GHz are demonstrated using electro-optical frequency division. At 40 GHz, a record-low, to our knowledge, phase noise of −153dBc/Hz is achieved (10 kHz offset).

Invited Paper Abstract (#TU2.1, 2022 MWP): In this paper, compact, ultra-low phase noise (ULPN) photonic microwave oscillators at 10, 20, 30 and 40 GHz based on electro-optical frequency division (eOFD) are described. At 40 GHz a record-low phase noise of -153 dBc/Hz is achieved (10 kHz offset, 40 GHz carrier). The oscillators use typically 50W wall-plug power from a single 12V supply.

Paper Abstract:
A 30 GHz ultra-low-phase-noise oscillator is demonstrated using electro-optical frequency division. The measured phase noise is -151 dBc/Hz (10 kHz offset) and -109 dBc/Hz (100 Hz offset). Phase locking to an external reference for long term synchronization is also demonstrated.
